NOVA Campus Recreation and Wellness Competes in Route 7 Rivalry

NOVA Campus Recreation and Wellness is all about engaging with students on multiple levels, delivering a product to enhance their overall wellness. The many different activities implemented by the recreation and wellness department across all of our campuses are to not only enrich our students’ social skills and physical activity but to also give them a sense of purpose on campus outside of academics.

The Campus Recreation and Wellness department teamed up with the Shenandoah University Campus Recreation department to create the “Route 7 Rivalry.” The Route 7 Rivalry is a series of extramural games between NOVA and Shenandoah University. The colleges will compete in many sporting contests, which include flag football, basketball, soccer and ultimate frisbee. “These types of events provide our students with the opportunity to represent the college in a fun and active way. I believe it helps develop a sense of pride and also creates a memorable experience for our students,” said Campus Recreation Director, CJ Jackson.

This year’s co-ed flag football contest between NOVA and Shenandoah University took place Nov. 3 in Winchester, Va. Both teams came out very competitive and exemplified great sportsmanship, positive vibes, and teamwork. “Its amazing seeing students from each of these intramural programs compete. The determination and pride each and every student displayed to win for their college is remarkable. I look forward to continuing this Route 7 Rivalry with NOVA,” said Shenandoah University Associate Director for Recreational Sports and Fitness, Matt Levy. Unfortunately, NOVA lost the game 30-20. Shenandoah currently is leading 2-0 in events that have taken place in this competition.

“It is important for us to provide our students with opportunities like this to keep them engaged and excited to represent NOVA in the community,” said Jackson.

Campus Recreation and Wellness activities are open to all NOVA students, faculty, and staff. To partake in any recreational or wellness activity and/or to register, visit
