NOVA students attended the first Fall GovCon Jobs and Internship Fair at the Loudoun Campus, featuring 16 local government contractors and governmental agencies.
The Fall GovCon Jobs and Internship Fair was in partnership by NOVA, Loudoun’s Department of Economic Development, the Loudoun Chamber GovCon Committee, and the firm’s Strongbridge and Triple Point Security.
NOVA students met directly with employers to discuss their job and internship opportunities. The students were well prepared and could hand their resumes directly to decision-makers and recruiters.
“These opportunities to collaborate with community partners and employers are extremely important, and allow NOVA to directly connect its talented students with the employers that are driving our regional economy,” said Dana Fallon, Career Services Manager, Corporate & Workforce Engagement for NOVA.
In conjunction with the fair, nearly 40 students attended a Security Clearance Information Session hosted by Squadron Defense Group. Richard Ray, Senior Security Manager, presented a detailed program on the types of security clearances needed by government contractors and agencies and how to plan and prepare to negotiate the application process successfully.
“Like many other areas, Loudoun County is experiencing a skills gap between the job skills employers need and the learning and experiences that our workforce possesses. Thanks to our great partners, the Loudoun Chamber was proud to help bridge that skills gap by providing NOVA’s many hard-working students the opportunity to connect with employers to gain the experiences they need to accelerate their careers and keep our local economy growing,” said Loudoun Chamber President Tony Howard.
