NOVA’s Medical Education Campus (MEC) hosted an Open House and Community Health Expo for over 100 attendees interested in learning about the campus’ specialized healthcare associate degree and certificate programs.
Participants met with NOVA students and faculty from each of the MEC’s 11 degree programs to discuss the requirements needed to enroll as a prospective student. Interactive lab tours and informational workshops related to financial aid, what it takes to succeed at the MEC and disability support services were also offered. Several NOVA services and support organizations also provided informational materials. MEC Provost Dr. Nicole Reaves extended opening remarks and welcomed everyone in attendance.
Local healthcare agencies and organizations, HealthWorks: Virginia Hospital Center, Bless My People Foundation, NovaSalud Inc. as well as the MEC’s Nursing Student Association provided free vision, glucose, blood pressure and HIV/STD health screenings for the general public. Fairfax Child & Wellness Division, Center for Biological Diversity, Kaiser Permanente, CareFirst, INOVA, Northern Virginia Area Health Education Center, George Mason University Mason & Partners Clinic, the Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation, and Maha Yoga offered giveaways and informational materials from their respective organizations.
