Dr. Scott Ralls spoke to iHeart Radio about NOVA’s cybersecurity program, one of the fastest-growing in the United States.
“It’s a program that has grown tremendously as the job opportunities in this region have grown,” Dr. Ralls said. “We’ve put a lot of investment into the program to meet those needs.”
The program was founded about four years ago and has grown from 40 students to more than 1,500.
“It’s a unique program. It’s designed as an apply program, which means it’s very practical and skills-based. It gives you the opportunity to gain certifications throughout. It also ties in very closely with some of our military partners,” Dr. Ralls explained.
NOVA’s cybersecurity program is transferable to nine different institutions, including the ability to complete the degree through George Washington University on two NOVA campuses.
The College also allows our cybersecurity students to challenge themselves in competitive settings.
“We have a Cyber Team, and we have teams that compete in Hackathons,” Dr. Ralls said.
NOVA recently constructed new facilities to help remain at the nation’s cutting edge in cybersecurity.
“We opened a new technology center in Woodbridge. Since then, we also opened one in Manassas and one in Reston. We’re also renovating one in Alexandria,” Dr. Ralls said.
