NOVA Music Students Perform at State Department

Dr. Sonya Suhnhee Kim, a member of the music faculty at NOVA’s Annandale Campus, presented a mid-day concert with her piano and ensemble students for the State of the Arts Cultural Series in the Dean Acheson Auditorium of the Department of State in Washington, DC.

Dr. Kim’s Piano and Ensemble students, Rachel Buck, Grace Buck, Victor Sarmiento and Josias Ventura, performed piano solo works by Frederick Chopin, Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven; Tuba and Piano duet by Henry Purcell and a piano four-hands work by Schubert. All four musicians treated the audience to the famous Military March No. 1 by Franz Schubert.

The audience consisted of employees of the State Department, who applauded, complimented the students’ musicianship, and thanked Dr. Sonya Suhnhee Kim for the concert.

Dr. Kim’s students appreciated this performance opportunity, saying that it was “a wonderful experience and we were honored to perform in front of the State employees, who appreciate music and culture.”

The audience was eager to have them return!
