Faculty and staff at the Medical Education Campus are pleased to welcome Maria Torres-Pillot as the new Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program Director.
Prior to working at the MEC, Torres-Pillot served as the MLT program chair at Argosy University in Dallas, where she directed and organized processes for a successful initial National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NACCLS) accreditation.
With over 32 years of administrative and instructional experience, she has served as Associate Professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences at Wichita State University, and Medical Technology Program Director and Associate/Assistant Professor at the University of the Sacred Heart in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Additionally, she obtained clinical experience as a bacteriology supervisor and generalist medical technologist at Doctors Hospital Santurce and Cataño Area Hospital in Puerto Rico.
Torres-Pillot plans to offer guidance to faculty and advisory board members with the mindset of accomplishing institutional goals and achievable program outcomes.
“The MEC is such a great facility with wonderful and exceptionally qualified faculty and staff,” Torres-Pillot said.” I have inherited a great program and I plan to continue the great work being done at the MEC.”
Torres-Pillot holds a M.A. in Science Education from New York University, a B.A. in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and a certificate in medical technology from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and American Society for Clinical Pathology.
