Student Life brought the “Alive! Mental Health Fair and Suicide Prevention Tour” to the Loudoun Campus. The Alive Mental Health Fair team’s mission is to bring an understanding of Mental Health to the world. The fair is an interactive, educational suicide prevention program aimed at college students. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death in college students and it is important to bring an awareness of warning signs and prevention.
During the fair, students had the chance to participate at various stations that presented different types of Mental Health Diseases.
“There are two interactive learning stations where students learn more about different mental illnesses and their symptoms and can see brain scans of each illness. There are also two creative artistic stations where students can express their individuality and share their secrets, fears, concerns, and positive messages of hope. The hands-on Graffiti Art Exhibit allows each student to create their own art expression on a large canvas. The canvas is pre-populated with a theme customized for each campus. The Share-a-Secret Exhibit involves blank postcards that are sent to each campus in advance of the fair, students can then write their secrets on them prior to the fair and then come read their own and other student’s secrets on display,” according to ImAlive.org.
Students at the Loudoun Campus reacted positively to the stations and said they will remember that day for a lifetime!
