NOVA Foundation Board Welcomes New Members

Northern Virginia Community College announced the addition of nine new members to serve on the College Educational Foundation Board.

The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. (NOVA Foundation) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation founded to generate support for NOVA by raising funds, increasing visibility and strengthening partnerships between the College as well as state and local communities. Funds are used to provide various types of support including scholarships, faculty development, program support and capital needs. The NOVA Foundation provides more than 500 scholarships and a range of academic programs throughout the College’s six campuses and Extended Learning Institute.

The NOVA Foundation is governed by a board of directors whose members come from both the public and private sectors in Northern Virginia. Potential Board members are nominated by sitting Board members. Foundation Board members may hold their positions for up to three years.

Information about the new NOVA Foundation Board members is below:

Kristina Bouweiri: Bouweiri serves as Chief Executive Officer and President at Reston Limousine and Travel Service Inc. She is the sole owner of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area’s largest luxury transportation provider. Based on her innovative business strategies over the last two decades, Reston Limousine and Travel Service, Inc. has enjoyed continued growth despite regional and national economic downturns.

Bob Weil: Weil has worked with many tax exempt organizations, association management companies and small businesses in the capacity of out-sourced general counsel. Among his many clients are public charities, trade associations, professional societies and private foundations. Weil also works with a number of association management companies, providing legal services to their exempt organization clients.

James Quigley: Currently Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Canvas, Quigley is an award-winning mobile and wireless solution executive with a deep background in wireless start-up ventures. He was named one of the top 20 individuals in his field by the World Supply Chain Forum and Chief Logistics Officer Magazine.

Mordecai Scott: As the associate director in the Tenant Representation group at Savills Studley, Scott advises occupiers on strategic real estate solutions for optimized business performance. Based in Washington, D.C., Scott serves end users across multiple industries and sectors. His focus is on ensuring that his clients make informed real estate decisions that maximize profits and accommodate employees and other stakeholders. He serves on the advisory board for the educational non-profit Outward Bound in Washington, D.C., as well as Communities in Schools of Northern Virginia. Scott has created and presented more than 50 national presentations and webinars on college persistence, program development, business and site standards.

Matthew Shank: Shank became Marymount University’s sixth president in July 2011. With a strong commitment to Catholic higher education and an understanding of Marymount’s diverse, inclusive learning environment, he began his first year by initiating a visioning process to clarify the University’s identity. While serving in this position, he has been an advocate for new, relevant academic programs such as a doctorate in cybersecurity, an undergraduate program in biochemistry and a graduate certificate in association management undertaken in collaboration with the American Society for Association Executives Center for Association Leadership. During his tenure, Marymount’s campus has experienced considerable growth and improvement. The main campus saw a multimillion-dollar renovation to academic, residential and athletic facilities, as well as its chapel.

Maris Angolia: Angolia is President and CEO of Karin’s Florist in Vienna, a family-owned business that was started by her father and grandfather more than 60 years ago. Karin’s Florist specializes in fresh florals, gifts, weddings and events and has become a staple in the local area because of its great service and family atmosphere. Karin’s Florist has been recognized on a local, regional and national level and is the proud recipient of several awards. Award-winning television host Steve Harvey named Karin’s Florist the “Best Florist in America” in 2013.

Andrew Ko: Ko is an entrepreneurial technology business leader with a distinguished record of developing mutually beneficial partnerships and strategic alliances, marketing new technology products/services for revenue, growth and profitability. He has in-depth experiences in sales and marketing; including hardware products and software/cloud technologies. Currently, Ko leads Global Education within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector business. Prior to joining AWS, he served as corporate vice-president of Samsung Global Education and general manager for Microsoft Corporation’s U.S. Education business, where he led the Partners in Learning team as well as the White House ConnectED initiative.

Erin Hogan: Hogan has more than 15 years of experience in the philanthropic and non-profit sector. She oversees the regional philanthropic practice for U.S. Trust® clients across 12 states and the District of Columbia, working closely with philanthropic individuals, families and nonprofit institutions on all aspects of giving.

Scott Miller: Until June 2017, Miller was President & CEO of FCi Federal Inc., a $250 million company providing administrative support to the nation’s immigration programs. FCi employs 5,000 individuals located at 125 offices around the country. Miller is actively involved in the community in numerous ways. He and his wife, Sharon Virts, together recently named the Virts Miller Family Emergency and Trauma Center at INOVA Loudoun Hospital. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the INOVA Foundation Board, and is a board member of the Loudoun Education Foundation.
