NOVA Named Top Fulbright Producing Institution

The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced the US colleges and universities that produced the most 2017-2018 Fulbright US Scholars. The Fulbright Program is the US government’s flagship international educational exchange program. Top-producing institutions are highlighted annually in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Professor Amy Coren from NOVA’s Alexandria Campus was awarded a Fulbright grant for 2017-2018 to the University of Pécs in Hungary. NOVA was one of 25 community colleges who had Fulbright scholarships awarded this year. NOVA faculty have consistently been awarded Fulbright Scholarships over the past decade.

Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 380,000 participants, chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, with the opportunity to exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. Over 1,100 US college and university faculty and administrators, professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers and independent scholars are awarded Fulbright grants to teach and/or conduct research annually. The Fulbright US Scholar Program operates in over 125 countries throughout the world.

The Fulbright US Scholar Program is a program of the US Department of State, funded by an annual appropriation from the US Congress to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education’s Council for International Exchange of Scholars.
